Frequently Asked Questions:

Availability - Can I get it? The signal is coming from a local tower. It could be a cell tower, a water tower, or a grain elevator. If you can see it, you can get it. If you can't see it, you may still be able to get service. 90%+ of our customers cannot see their tower. Our non-Line of Sight equipment can go through a significant amount of trees.

What is the Install Fee? The cost for a standard residential install is $149. This is a flat, one time cost for all equipment and labor. This includes up to 10 feet of pipe in a tripod if necessary to get sufficient signal strength. Normal installs are done on an eve with a one arm bracket like those used in many satellite dish installs.

What does it cost if I cannot get service? If we come out to install you, and the signal is not good enough to provide good service, you don't pay anything. However, if we cannot get you service with the standard installation equipment, the technician may test with more height to see if a larger tripod and longer pole will help. If the signal would be good enough, you will have the option of having the extra equipment installed at an additional fee. Also, quotes are available for towers that we install (towers are also great for things like HDTV and cell phone boosting antenna).

What does it cost per month? Residential service is $39.95 per month. This has been our price for four years.

Can I use my existing wireless equipment? Yes and No. Our service is "fixed wireless". This means that it is wireless to a fixed antenna mounted on or around your home or business. The last piece of the install includes a radio that is installed indoors that will connect to your PC. If you have a wireless router, you can use that router to connect to our equipment, and then hook up several PCs either wired or wirelessly to that router. If all you have is a wireless laptop or PC and you want to use in wirelessly within the house, you will need a wireless router to connect to our equipment. This is not included as part the standard install, but can be purchased at the time of install.

How is the install completed? An installer will first survey the area, and discuss mounting options with you. Then, the proposed install location will be tested to see if the signal is adequate there. Once good signal is verified, the installer will mount the antenna, run the antenna wire, ground the connection, hook up the radio indoors, and connect to your PC. We use a variety of antennas:

Flat panel - Dimensions 12"x12"

Small yagi - Dimensions 17.5" Long

Large yagi - Dimensions 48" Long

Indoor - Dimensions 5.5"x5.5"<BR

Trango - Dimensions 9"x4.5"

Customer Requirements - What do I need to have? All that is needed on your PC is a network connection. This is also known as a network jack, ethernet port, LAN connection, etc. It looks like an over sized phone connector:

What if I don't have it? We can provide and install a NIC (Network Interface card) for your PC at an additional charge. This will help eliminate problems. Alternatively, you can buy one yourself and install it, but we cannot guarantee that it will work correctly.

Can I get the Internet for free? Yes, you can. You can receive a free month of residential service by referring some who we get hooked up within 60 days of the referral.

Speed - How fast is it? The standard residential connection is burstable to 1Mbps down, and 256Kbps up. 1Mbps is equivalent to 1000Kbps, so it's 25 times faster than 40Kbps dial-up. Commercial line-of-sight connections can be much faster. The latency of our connections is also much better than dial-up or satellite. Latency is how long it takes for data to get from your PC to the Internet and back. Dial-up is often 200-300ms (milliseconds or thousands of a second) and satellite is 800ms at best. Our wireless connections offer latency around 15ms.

Weather - Is this going to cut out like satellite service? No. Service is generally not affected by weather. Snow, sleet, and rain are not dense enough to block the signal.

Does this tie up my phone line? Is it like satellite? Our system never requires a connection to a phone line. And this is not satellite, it is wireless to the nearest servicing transmission tower. Satellite signals have to travels thousands of miles to an orbiting satellite, bounce back to Earth and off to the web site, return to the satellite and once more back to a satellite receiver. This takes almost a full second. Data on our service can make that trip 50 times faster.

Is there a contract? There is a one year contract when you sign up for service. Your price is locked in for that year. We expect that you will like the service and continue well beyond that time. If the price were to go up (it has never changed) at the end of your contract, you would be notified before your contract expires.
